A New Chapter for ICoTA

Under the leadership of Shaun and Ross, the chapter will host its inaugural well intervention session on 29th July, bringing together the region's well intervention community for the first time under the ICoTA banner.

Australasia

The establishment of the ICoTA Australasia Chapter marks an important step in ICoTA's continued growth, extending its network of collaboration between operators and service companies into a new region. Under the leadership of Shaun and Ross, the chapter will host its inaugural well intervention session on 29th July, bringing together the region's well intervention community for the first time under the ICoTA banner.

ICoTA looks forward to the chapter's growth and the valuable contribution Shaun and Ross will bring in advancing intervention excellence across Australasia.

 

Shaun O'Brien - Senior Chairman, ICoTA Australasia

Shaun O'Brien is a Well Intervention and Completion Engineer with over 25 years of international oil and gas experience, specialising in light and heavy well intervention, well integrity, and abandonment across platform and subsea environments.

He has held roles within major operators including ENI, BP, ConocoPhillips, Woodside Energy, and AGR, working across Australia, the UK, Norway, Trinidad, India, and Africa. 

As Senior Chairman of ICoTA Australasia, Shaun is focused on strengthening collaboration between operators and technology providers, accelerating technology adoption, and ensuring alignment with global best practice. 

He brings strong capability in industry collaboration, stakeholder alignment, governance oversight, technology qualification, and the advancement of operational excellence and safety culture across the well lifecycle.

Shaun holds a Master of Business Administration (Leadership & Management), a Master of Oil and Gas Engineering (Petroleum Engineering), a Bachelor of Engineering (First Class Honours), and a Bachelor of Finance (Corporate Finance & Accounting).

Ross Cooper - Co-Chair, ICoTA Australasia

With more than 25 years of international experience across well intervention, thru tubing, slickline, and completion systems, Ross Cooper has built a career leading high-performance operations and delivering technical excellence for major energy service companies across the Middle East, Australia, and the UK.

Ross currently serves as an Operations Manager in Perth, Australia, where he combines with operational leadership frontline sales responsibility.

Earlier in his career, Ross progressed through a series of technical and supervisory roles in slickline, inflatable packers, gas lift, and wellhead operations across various service companies. This hands-on foundation gives him a unique ability to bridge field execution, engineering design, and commercial strategy.
